صباح ميداني على الساحل الجنوبي: جمع النفايات من خطّ الشاطئ ومن المياه الضحلة، مع تسجيل أنواعها في استمارة بسيطة تمنحنا صورة أوضح عن مصادرها.A field morning on Aqaba's southern shore: clearing litter from the beach line and the shallows, and recording what we find on a simple tally sheet that builds a clearer picture of where it comes from.
في أكتوبر تنكسر حدّة حرارة العقبة بينما تبقى مياه الخليج دافئة بما يكفي للعمل في المياه الضحلة لساعات. هذه النافذة القصيرة هي أنسب ما يمكن اختياره لعمل ساحلي مريح وآمن.
يبدأ اليوم بإحاطة قصيرة حول السلامة والتعامل مع الشاطئ الصخري والكائنات البحرية، ثم يتوزّع المشاركون على فريقين: فريق يعمل على خطّ الشاطئ، وفريق يعمل في المياه الضحلة بالقناع والزعانف. النزول إلى الماء اختياري تماماً، والعمل على اليابسة لا يقلّ أهمية.
ما يميّز هذا اليوم أنّه لا يتوقّف عند الجمع. تحصل كل مجموعة على استمارة فرز بسيطة تُسجّل فيها أنواع ما جمعته: بلاستيك أحادي الاستخدام، أعقاب سجائر، خيوط وأدوات صيد، زجاج، معادن. هذه السجلات تُكوّن مع الوقت قاعدة تساعدنا على معرفة ما يتكرّر على هذا الجزء من الساحل، فنوجّه حملات التوعية إلى مصدره بدل الاعتماد على الانطباع.
يُرجى إحضار قبعة وواقٍ من الشمس وحذاء يناسب الصخور وزجاجة ماء قابلة لإعادة الاستخدام. توفّر الجمعية القفّازات وأكياس الجمع والاستمارات وعدداً محدوداً من أقنعة السنوركل. المشاركة في القسم المائي تتطلّب إجادة السباحة، ويلزم المشاركين دون الثامنة عشرة مرافقة وليّ الأمر.October is when Aqaba's heat finally eases while the Gulf stays warm enough to spend hours working in the shallows. That narrow window is the best time of year for coastal work that is both comfortable and safe.
The morning opens with a short safety briefing on handling the rocky shoreline and the marine life around it. Volunteers then split into two teams: one working the beach line, one working the shallows with mask and fins. Going into the water is entirely optional, and the shore team's work matters just as much.
What sets this day apart is that it does not stop at collecting. Each group gets a simple tally sheet and sorts what it finds into categories: single-use plastic, cigarette butts, fishing line and tackle, glass, metal. Over time these records build up a picture of what keeps appearing on this stretch of coast, so our awareness work can address the source instead of relying on impressions.
Please bring a hat, sun protection, footwear suited to rock, and a refillable water bottle. We provide gloves, collection bags, tally sheets and a limited number of snorkel masks. Joining the in-water team requires confident swimming, and participants under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian.
