عاد الطلبة إلى مقاعدهم، وجوّ أكتوبر يسمح بالعمل في ساحة المدرسة دون حرارة تُنهك أحداً. هذا هو التوقيت الذي يظهر فيه اليوم البيئي في أفضل صوره: قبل أن ينشغل الفصل بالامتحانات، وفي مناخ يسمح بأن يجري نصف النشاط في الهواء الطلق.
يقوم اليوم على محطّات قصيرة تتناوب عليها المجموعات الصفّية. محطّة يفرز فيها الطلبة نفايات حقيقية بأيديهم بدل أن يسمعوا شرحاً عن الفرز. ومحطّة عن استهلاك المياه في البيت والمدرسة في بلد شحيح المياه. ومحطّة عن الحياة في خليج العقبة، وما الذي يعيش بين الشعاب المرجانية وما الذي يؤذيها. ومحطّة أخيرة يزرع فيها كل طالب شتلة صغيرة في وعاء ويأخذها معه إلى بيته.
يُختتم اليوم بجلسة قصيرة مع الطلبة الراغبين في الاستمرار، لتأسيس نادٍ بيئي في المدرسة أو لدعم نادٍ قائم بخطّة عمل بسيطة يقودها الطلبة أنفسهم على مدار العام.
اليوم موجّه لمدارس العقبة، ويناسب المرحلتين الأساسية العليا والثانوية. تُرحّب الجمعية بتواصل إدارات المدارس الراغبة في استضافته، ويُبلَّغ المسجّلون بالمدرسة المستضيفة وتفاصيل الدخول قبل الموعد.Students are back at their desks, and October weather makes it possible to work in a school yard without anyone wilting. That is exactly when an environment day works best: before the term fills up with exams, and in a climate that lets half the activity happen outdoors.
The day runs as a series of short stations that class groups rotate through. At one, students sort real waste with their own hands rather than sit through a lesson about sorting. At another, they look at how water is actually used at home and at school in a country where it is scarce. A third covers life in the Gulf of Aqaba: what lives among the corals and what harms them. At the last, every student pots a small seedling and takes it home.
We close with a short session for the students who want to carry on, either founding an environment club at the school or supporting an existing one with a simple, student-led plan for the year.
The day is designed for schools in Aqaba and suits upper-basic and secondary stages. School administrations interested in hosting are welcome to get in touch, and registrants are told the host school and entry details ahead of the date.
